Truly Madly Plaid by Eliza Knight
Genres: Historical Romance
These Highland warriors are prepared to give up everything to fight for their country.
Annie MacPherson's world was torn apart when her family's castle was ravaged during the war. Determined to aid her countrymen, she braves the battlefield and finds Lieutenant Craig MacLean left for dead. Soon, her heart belongs to the fierce warrior.
As the English dragoons draw closer to Annie's makeshift hospital, Craig knows they have to escape together if they'll have any chance to survive. But when they come face-to-face with the enemy, and Craig is imprisoned, Annie will have to risk everything she has to save the man she can't live without.
History and adventure come to life in Eliza Knight's thrilling Scottish Highland romance. Annie is based loosely on Anne MacKay, Anne Leith and Lady Maxwell, who risked their lives to protect Jacobite soldiers by hiding them, healing their wounds, and aiding in their escape from enemy forces.
I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
The battle of Culloden and strife of the Scottish takes the forefront in this book which is one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much. We get so much more than just a historical romance, we get plenty of action too.
Annie (and her two friends, Jenny and Fiona) travel with Prince Charles’ troops as they fight for him to take the throne. Annie is the prince’s nurse but also the healer for all of the wounded. It is a job that she is very good at and I love getting to read about her doing her work. While Lieutenant Craig MacLean is a member of Prince Charles’s army and very skilled in his own right. He is also best friends with Annie’s brother who happens to be the laird of the MacPherson clan.
Annie and Craig had an attraction they both worked hard to deny then Culloden happens and Craig is wounded. Annie drags him, as well as others, from the battle field to nurse them. Craig and Annie know the Redcoats are hunting them and have to leave before they are found on top of the attraction that is simply too string to deny any longer.
This is simply one of the best historical romances I have read this year. Annie and Craig (as well as all of the secondary characters) are so well written. I always love reading anything from Eliza Knight and in this book, like many of her others, you can tell she did her research. Reading this is like being there on the battlefield with them. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
