Review
One this is for certain I can always count on Harlequin when I am in a book rut. Their books never let me down and this was no exception. I had worried since this is the fourth book in the series that I would be missing out on a lot. That is not true. This is a stand alone book that doesn’t leave you feeling like you missed much from the previous books. Again, something I love.
When Alyssa Hazel wakes up in a trailer bedroom closet she doesn’t remember much. The two voices from the other room she hears discussing just what to do with her lets her know just how much danger she is in. She manages to escape and make her way home. The only problem is home isn’t home anymore. With her memories scattered she made her way to her ex-husband’s house.
She has no memory of their divorce and Police Officer Blake O’Connor is more than a little shocked. He never thought to find his ex-wife on the porch. Make that his very pregnant ex-wife. She walked out on him and their marriage with no explanation and left him devastated. Now, here she is claiming the child is his and having no memory of walking out or why she is in such trouble in the first place.
This book is action-packed from page one. There is no slow build up to the suspense, it is there from page one. There are plenty of twists and turns as Blake works hard to not only solve the mystery of what is happening but also to protect Alyssa and their unborn child at the same time.
The romance is well placed and while their is no sex in this book it was refreshing. This couple is rebuilding what was lost while dealing with a pregnancy and running for their lives. Sex isn’t really something they had time for. Not to mention to Alyssa, they are still married as she doesn’t remember the divorce.
While the romance is present, the suspense and mystery are so much more to the forefront of this book. I enjoyed it so much and am planning on checking out the previous three books in the series and any others that follow.
