Two best friends & a bakery!
Piper and Samantha are in heaven. Well, close. More like a long weekend at the O Heavenly Day Spa. A few mysterious notes start appearing everywhere, things get uncomfortable. As spa treatments go awry things get dangerous. A threatening message convinces Piper and Sam that they have to find out who is behind all of these disasters. When the smoke alarms go off and the spa erupts into panic, the chaos separates the friends and Piper stumbles into trouble. Will someone help her before it is too late?
Thoughts from Samantha Lowe
I’m Samantha, but you can all call me Sam. You’ve probably met my friend Piper by now; if not, you will soon. She and I own this quaint little bakery and café, the Ooey Gooey Goodness Bakery, and I typically try not to brag (that’s my mother’s area of expertise) but I have to tell you, we make incredible, delicious, tantalizing treats on a daily basis. Piper does a larger portion of the actual baking, while I do more of the detail decorations and designs, but we each do a little bit of everything.
My father is the mayor of our picturesque seaside town. And my mother, well, I think she believes that being First Lady of Seashell Bay is equivalent to being First Lady of the United States, if you get my drift. I love her, but we don’t get along. Never have. She hasn’t even visited us in the bakery yet and to be honest, that is fine by me. If she came, it would be a barrage of complaints, real or imagined, and most likely another lecture on how I’m wasting my life by not finding a rich and political husband.
Now, I will admit there is one thing my mother taught that stuck with me. Fashion. I love clothes like Piper loves chocolate. And I adore shopping. It doesn’t even have to be for me. I have just as much fun taking other people shopping as I do for myself, maybe more because it is like the grown-up version of playing dress-up or barbies. Piper hates it when I make her go shopping with me. She is not into clothes at all unless they have basically fifteen pockets and are pretty drab. I did finally convince her to buy cargo pants in multiple colors and a few in stretchy fabric instead of just denim jeans. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good denim but you need to have more than one thing in your closet.
Another thing that I learned from my mother: to be happy all the time. Not because she is actually a happy person; quite the opposite, in fact. She spent so much of my childhood acting happy, smiling brightly at political functions, looking perfect, then complaining and bitter or backstabbing when no one was looking that it made me decide to be the exact opposite. I do things I love. I hang out with people who are genuinely good and kind and who like me just the way I am, with no acting. I make the most of life buy appreciating the small things and not trying to fit into anyone else’s expectations. So, for all of my complaining, I guess I have Mother to thank for that lesson, regardless of the fact that it isn’t the one she was trying to teach me.
I think the oven timer is buzzing and I can’t think of too much else to say that you won’t find out in the book anyway. Oh, my author did have a lot of fun with my exaggerated hair color habit. I love to dye my hair (another thing that gets under my mother’s skin), so keep an eye out in each book to see what color I’m sporting for my new look.
Bye & thanks for hanging out with me today!
