Noah lost his hearing in an accident a year ago, but after receiving a cochlear implant, he gained an unexpected ability—he can read people’s thoughts. While that might sound like a superpower, it quickly becomes overwhelming, and to pay for his medical bills, he secretly takes on work for the government. Careful What You Hear is the second book in the Do You Hear What I Hear series, but it works well as a standalone, following Noah and his secret agent partner, Lena, on a thrilling mission to Huntsville, AL.
The writing is engaging and relatable, making it a perfect read for middle schoolers who love action, mystery, and a touch of espionage. The author’s vivid descriptions bring the setting and characters to life, and the story is packed with suspense, humor, and heart. I was hooked from start to finish and loved how the ending leaves room for even more adventures in the series!
